Bishop of Middleton
Bishop Mark will be visiting school next Friday to lead a re-dedication service for our new hall and library areas. He will be having lunch with the children and spending time touring around school.
P.E. reminder
Please can we ask that your child has a full P.E. kit in school at all times. We have run short of spare kit and your child may miss out on the lesson.
Also please can we ask that for health and safety reasons, only stud earrings are worn in school. If your child cannot remove the earrings for P.E. please can plasters be sent into school to cover the earrings.
Year 1 – open afternoon – Monday 12th July – 2.30pm
Year one will be holding an open afternoon for parents of our current reception children. This is a great opportunity to meet the teachers and find out what your child will be doing over the next academic year. Letters will be sent home in the next couple weeks with further details.
Can you help us to win £2000?
Our box is getting full! This is the last week for collecting. Please check old newspapers and send all your vouchers into school for Monday as we need to post them into the Journal next week. Many thanks.

Year 2 – Southport trip
Year two had a great time at Southport learning about the Victorian aspects of the seaside town. Photos will be on our school website soon.

Summer Fair Saturday 3rd July – 1.30pm
Any donations are most welcome towards our summer fair. Any bottles, tombola items and cuddly toys would be appreciated. Our Friends of St John’s are meeting each Tuesday morning to plan and organise the summer fair. All parents, carers and grandparents are welcome. If you cannot attend the meetings but would like to help out on the day please see Mrs Hughes.
Each year group will be singing on the day and our new King and Queen will be crowned. Congratulations to Milly and Keanu from Year 1 who will be our new King and Queen.
Leigh Children’s Centre….
…at 18 Market Street, are holding an information morning about summer activities for families on Saturday 19th June. From 9am to 1pm. Contact Gwen on 404403.
Sports Day
Our annual sports day will be on Monday 5th July, starting around 1.15pm. All are welcome to come along and support the teams.

Tesco for Schools
Please collect vouchers and place in collection box near the front entrance. We will exchange vouchers for ICT equipment.

Some of our Year 1 children enjoyed a visit from a gardener this week. They had a good tidy up in our wildlife garden and planted tomato and cabbage plants.
Asda and Aldi now recycle batteries.
We will be attending the Wigan Council Eco celebration in July at Haigh Hall. This is an event which recognises the work schools have done on the Eco Schools Program and what the plans are for the future.

Georges Smiles Run
There is a 3 mile fun run and other events taking place at Pennington Flash on Saturday 19th June in aid of Ronald McDonald House at Alder Hey. There are information leaflets and entry forms in the entrance foyer. Please note this is an external event and not planned by school. Please direct any enquiries to the contact name on the leaflets.
Reception play
Reception will be performing ‘Humpty Dumpty’ on Thursday 8th July at 9.15am.
We will be filming the performance and the DVD will be available to order afterwards.
